NYC Issues Travel Advisory Amid Flood Watch and Thunderstorms
US · Published Aug 27, 2026
New York City Emergency Management has issued a Travel Advisory for Thursday, August 27, 2026, due to expected rain and thunderstorms that could bring heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed NYC under a Flood Watch from noon to 11 p.m.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses a risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, subway stations, and basement apartments. Travel disruptions are likely, and flooded streets may hide submerged hazards, debris, or electrical dangers. Those living in below-grade spaces are at higher risk and should be prepared to relocate if conditions worsen. The advisory also warns of potential tree damage due to strong winds.
